The latest figure showed an increase of 38.2% year-on-year and 1.6% monthly.
In total, the index was above the 2025 inflation rate (which stood at 31.5%), although broken down by sector, the increases were smaller. The registered private sector grew by 28.7% in 2025, and the public sector by 28.9%.
Buenos Aires, March 24 (NA) -- The National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC) will release this Wednesday the reports corresponding to international tourism and the salary index. The first set of data corresponds to February, while the second reflects the first month of 2026. Both statistics will be released starting at 4:00 PM.
Tourism INDEC disseminates the figures for international tourism corresponding to February. Photo: Agencia NA / Archive The International Tourism Survey (ETI) conducted by INDEC at the country's main airports allows for estimates of the number of resident tourists traveling abroad and non-resident tourists visiting Argentina, the purpose of the trip, the length of stay, and the most commonly used type of accommodation, among others. The latest report, with January data, showed a negative balance of 1,272,400 international visitors. The only sector that ended up positive was the unregistered private sector, which grew more than double the inflation rate in the same period (87.9%).
This resulted in a tourism deficit: the number of residents leaving Argentina was greater than the number of tourists entering. The number of Argentines leaving the country fell by 8.5%, while, contrary to this, the number of tourists entering Argentina increased by 1.4%.
The balance of dollars from tourism income and outflows was also reported within the ETI, but with the change implemented by the government, that data is no longer officially disclosed. The Secretariat of Tourism, under the leadership of Daniel Scioli, decided to cease funding as of January 1st of this year the INDEC operations destined to measure tourist activity.
